JV 44 (Jagdverband 44) was a special fighter unit of top German fighter ace pilots in the Luftwaffe during the last months of WWII. The main aircraft used by the unit was the Messerschmitt ME262 and the Focke Wulf FW-190D9. The commander of JV 44 was General Adolf Galland.
Galland established a protection flight of FW-190's to provide air cover for takeoffs and landings of the ME-262 jets.
